About Our Association
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), MDAS, is a self-help organisation formed in March 2000 to empower people with Muscular Dystrophy as well as their families.
Muscular Dystrophy refers to a group of inherited muscular disorders that arise due to gene abnormalities. These are characterised by muscle weakness, wasting and contractures, which are usually progressive in nature and sometimes even life-threatening. With a few exceptions, the symptoms usually manifest in childhood. There is unfortunately no known cure for Muscular Dystrophy at present.
In view of the challenges faced by people with Muscular Dystrophy and their families, MDAS aims to render its fullest support by extending its membership privileges to all children, youth and adults with Muscular Dystrophy as well as their families.
